Elmhorst, Rhonda (Earned Honor - 1985)

Rhonda Elmhorst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Elmhorst, Neillsville, was among those earning a 4.00 grade-point average during the second semester of the 1984-85 school year at the Mid-State Technical Institute, Wisconsin Rapids.

Students who earned a 4.00 (or an all A) average received distinguished mention on the list. Only students who were enrolled for 12 or more credits in a full-time program were eligible for the list.

Hediger, Clara (Scholarship - 1985)

Clara Hediger, daughter of Charlote Schneider, Neillsville, based on her outstanding academic record, has been award a United Church of Christ (UC) Pastor’s-Presidential Scholarship, worth $3,000, and a Kohler Foundation Scholarship, worth $1,500, to attend Lakeland College this fall.

UCC Pastor’s-Presidential scholarships are awarded to new Lakeland students who are members of a UCC congregation, have been nominated by his or her pastor, and have held a grade-point average of 3.5 or better at their previous schools. Kohler Foundation scholarships are awarded to students who have been recommended by a Lakeland faculty member, based upon a 3.0 grade-point average or better. The $1,000-per-year UCC Pastor’s-Presidential and the $500-per-year Kohler awards are renewable if the student maintains these grade-point averages,

Hediger graded within the top 10 of her class from Neillsville High School in 1984. She was listed in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students” for two years, was a member of the German Club, and served as captain of the cross country and track teams. She is transferring to Lakeland, where she will major in early childhood education, from the Child Care Program at District One in Eau Claire.

Lakeland is a private liberal arts college affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Founded in 1862, the college serves around 900 students and is located about 10 miles northwest of Sheboygan.

Paula Rene Smith, Neillsville, is among students enrolled in the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Family Resources and Consumer Sciences (FRCS) who have been named to the Dean’s List of top scholars for the past semester, according to Assistant Dean, Nancy Miller.

To be eligible for the honor list, a student must be enrolled full time and earn at least a 3.25 grade average on a 4 point basis. FRCS offers 12 under-graduate majors in five program areas.

Sternitzky, Steve (Elected Officer - 1985)

Steve Sternitzky, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sternitzky, Neillsville, is among students elected to offices in the Associated Students of Pacific University (ASPU) for 1985-86.

Sternitzky, a 2nd year student In optometry at Pacific, will be vice president.

The officers will work on student government and activity plans during the summer. The ASPU is the highest governing body for student affairs at Pacific.
