Granton (5 June 1974)
The Granton Senior Citizens group will met at the fire hall Tuesday, June 11, at
7:30 p.m. Entertainment and lunch will be furnished by the Romadka 4-H club.
The United Methodist Women will meet this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at
the church. Program chairman Mrs. William Schmidtke will lead the Bible Study.
Miss Mabel Williams will be the hostess.
Mrs. Myrtle Radtke of Columbus returned home Sunday after a week’s visit with
her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Farnsworth.
The UMW Society of the York Center United Methodist Church was to meet Wednesday
afternoon with Mrs. Nyle Benedict. Mrs. Merle Bartsch was the June program
leader.
Mrs. Lavern Vanderwyst was honored a t her home Saturday evening with a surprise
birthday supper planned and prepared by her children. Those present were: Mr.
and Mrs. Dale Wernberg and sons of Marshfield and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Vanderwyst
and family of Granton. Monday evening supper guests at the Lavern Vanderwyst
home, also in observance of Mrs. Vanderwyst’s birthday, were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Kademan of Curtiss, Mr. and Mrs. William Wolf of Marshfield and Mr. and Mrs.
John Barth of Chili.
Carl Harlin was taken to Memorial Hospital Sunday morning by ambulance.
Mrs. Harvey Johnson visited one afternoon last week with Mrs. Lyle Fero.
Granton Royal Neighbors Fidelity Camp No. 6375 met May 29 at the home of Mrs.
Manford Cain with nine members present. The next meeting is to be June 27 with
Miss Ruth Pietenpol.
Bruce Hanson, son of of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hanson, is hospitalized in
Neillsville following an appendectomy.
Mr. and Mrs. Otto A. Schmidtke and family of Stratford were Saturday Supper
guests of his mother, Mrs. Otto Schmidtke.
York Sew and So Homemakers are to meet Thursday, June13, with Mrs. Rollie
Benedict.
The Friendship Club picnic scheduled for June 9 has been cancelled.
Lye Fero, together with Neal Fero and son, Brian, and Harold Depratt of
Milwaukee, returned to Granton Saturday after spending a week in Canada on a
fishing trip. They reported good weather conditions and a fine catch of northern
pike and walleyes. Mrs. Neal Fero, daughter Sandra, and Mrs. Depratt arrived at
the Lyle Fero home Saturday to spend the weekend, and the Milwaukee folks
returned home Sunday.
The Friendly Neighbors club is to meet June 14 at the Dale Tyler home in
Marshfield.
Approximately 75 persons from area United Methodist churches gathered Thursday
evening at the Granton United Methodist Church to hear Dr. Allen R. Reagen,
resident director of the office of finance and field services, board of global
ministries, New York City, speak on Christian stewardship. Ladies of the church
served coffee and dessert bars following the meeting.
