McCoy (Rue), Stella (24 NOV 1875 – 10 Sep 1970)

Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Rue McCoy, a former Spencer resident, were held at the Hansen Funeral Chapel at Marshfield Saturday, September 12, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Wesley Dafoe officiating, and burial in the West Spencer Cemetery. The pallbearers were Wilford Martin, Al Schwandt and her grandsons, Thomas, Larry, Roland and Richard Rue.

Another grandson, Edward Bizjak, sang the hymn “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” during the service.

Mrs. McCoy died Thursday, September 10, 1970 at 4:55 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been taken the previous Monday from the Family Heritage Home at Wis. Rapids. She was born November 24, 1875 at Orion, Wisconsin, the only child of Dr. James and Rachael Truax. She received her education in the local school and at Muscoda High School.

She was married to James E. Rue July 3, 1892. In 1900 they, with their three small children, journeyed to Clark county in a covered wagon and lived on farm in the Spencer area, later moving to the village of Spencer, where Mr. Rue died in 1912. On June 30, 1919 she was united in marriage to Thomas E. McCoy of Hampton, Iowa, who preceded her in death in 1947. She became a Marshfield resident in 1920 and resided in that city until April of 1968, when she suffered a stroke and was taken to the Wolff Nursing Home at Arpin, Wisconsin.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Marshfield.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Velte, Marshfield and Mrs. Etta Burnett of Spencer, two sons, Clifton Rue of Marshfield and Ray Rue of Shafer, Minnesota, 21 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 3 sons, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
