Running, blocking fullback Ed Petkovsek was named Eau Claire State’s offensive
player of the week for his performance in the Eau Claire Blugold’s 49 – 9 loss
to Nationally ranked Platteville on Saturday, October 31, 1970.
Petkovsek, a 6 foot, 200 pound second-year man from Greenwood High School (Clark
Co., Wis.), carried 17 times for 58 years against Platteville’s highly touted
defense. Although he was not the leading Blugold rushers, head coach Link Walker
was especially pleased with Petkovsek’s “exceptional blocking.
Walker says Petkovsek has really developed his abilities during the course of
this season, “He has potential to develop into a fine runner.” Walker calls
Petkovsek “ideally built” size wise with “good speed and blocking ability.”
Petkovsek was the leading rusher on the junior varsity squad last season with
231 years in four games. As a senior at Greenwood, Petkovsek was all-conference
on both offense and defense, while being voted the most improved player on the
squad.
Ed is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Petkovsek.
Nice going, Ed!!
