Brown, Kay Marie (Gruny) (13 JUN 1965 - 15 MAR 2016)
Kay Marie Brown, a former Medford resident, age 50, died on Tuesday, March 15 at
Colorado Springs, Colo.
A private family only graveside service will take place at 2:45 p.m. on
Saturday, April 16 at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford with Father Phil
Juza officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 15 at Hemer Funeral
Home, Medford where there will be a 7 p.m. Catholic prayer service held that
evening.
Kay was born in Marshfield on June 13, 1965 to Irene (Smith) and the late Robert
J. Gruny.
She attended Medford Area Elementary and Middle Schools, graduated from Medford
Sr. High School in 1983, attended UW-Eau Claire and received a degree in health
and physical education from UW-La Crosse. On November 11, 1989 she married Brian
Brown in Gurnee, Ill. and they were divorced in December 2013.
After her education, she taught at youth camps for a period of time. After her
marriage, they resided at Duncan, Ariz., Prescott, Ariz. and Darlington, Wis.
She taught physical education while in Arizona. They moved to Medford and took
over the family oil business for a short period of time. Then they moved to
Colorado Springs, Colo. where she was a health and physical education teacher
until ill health. She enjoyed teaching swimming to adults, hiking and traveling.
In addition to her mother she is survived by her children, Zachery (Julie)
Brown, Dylan D. Brown, and Courtney Marie Brown, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.,
and a brother, Jon Gruny of Chippewa Falls.
In addition to her father in 2008, she is preceded in death by brothers, Mark
“Spanky” Gruny in 2001, and Michael Gruny in 2014.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are to be given
to Holy Rosary School of Medford.
