Humbird (6 June 1974)
Among the Humbird students of Lincoln High School at Alma Center several have
received awards. Senior choral awards went to Don Forsting, Nancy Kyelonen;
Librarians, Nancy Kyelonen: Forensics, Joanne Forsting, who also won an award in
industrial education (wood); Dale Kubaskie and Boyd Trachsel FFA jacket award
for salesmanship; Scott Gearing, conservation and wildlife.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Holmgren of Dunedin, Fla., are visiting his niece, Mrs.
Millie Trachsel.
Mr. and Mrs. John Perry and Mr. and Mrs Wayne Perry of Richland Center visited
Wednesday with their sister, Mrs. Kate Dignin.
Harry Wilson and Ernest Matti of Eau Claire visited the Arnold Matti’s last
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe were dinner and afternoon guests Sunday of his sister,
Mrs. Emma Haag, and Leonard, in rural Melrose.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Johnson and daughters attended the broiler festival held in
Eleva Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice were in Neillsville Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Shara of Wisconsin Rapids, and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Woodford
of Green Bay, visited Mrs. Gladys Lightfoot Saturday and at the Melvin Walker
home.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Burnett and family of Hixton, and Mr. and Mrs. Perle
Pickett, enjoyed a picnic supper at Hatfield Sunday and also a bit of fishing.
Charley Fees and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Walker left Friday for Kadoka, S.D. to attend
the golden wedding of Mr. Fees’ brother Sunday. They expected to come back
Monday.
The “smelt fry” supper Satruday, put on by the Community Club, was well attended
and a tidy sum was taken in. A pump has been installed and water is piped into
the Community Hall, which is a great help.
Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Larson in Hixton.
Mr. and Mrs. John Kleckner of Stevens Point, and Mrs. Freda Zerbel, along with
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Zerbel and family and her mother from Wausau, were in Alma
Center Sunday to attended the confirmation of Mike Zerbel, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Zerbel, in Grace Lutheran Church. The group, were dinner and afternoon
guests at the Donald Zerbel home here.
Mrs. Ida Harrington of Auburn was a guest of Mrs. Gladys Lightfoot last
Thursday.
Visitors at the DeWayne Parent home last weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph
McIntyre of Elk Mound, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Burrington of Albertville, and Mrs.
Parents’ father and Kenneth Parent of Grafton, N.D.
Cary Austin of Beloit spent last weekend at the home of his grandmother, Mrs.
Laura Dignin.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Prindle joined relatives recently for a picnic dinner in
Robinson Creek Park.
Monday, Mr. and Mrs. Pirl Burrington of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McIntyre of
Elk Mound, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Burrington, and Mr and Mrs. Kevin Guibord of
Chippewa Falls gathered at the DeWayne Parent home for a family visit and a cook
out.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Laffe were at the Ben Clouse home in Loyal Sunday. Other
guests were Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Schlei of Green Bay. Mrs. Schlei also attended her
50th class reunion held Saturday night.
Those who helped in the Health Screen Friday in Merrillan were members of the
local Homemakers groups: Mrs. Lillian Martin, Mrs. Ethel Forsting, Mrs. Emma
Gerber, Mrs. Joe Mayer, Mrs. Rob Krumholz and Mrs. Rolla Sieg.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sieg and children of Hortonville were overnight guests
Friday and dinner guests Saturday, at the Bernard Sieg home.
Dinner guests Sunday at the Bernard Sieg home were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bloom and
children of Price, and Mrs. Laura Dignin.
John Greub is still a patient in Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. He expected
to be home sometime this week.
Maude Newton came home Sunday after spending a week at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Helene Nelson, in Eau Claire.
