Shirk, Anna Mae (27 September 1954 - 1 April 2016)
Anna Mae Shirk, age 61, of Thorp, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016. A
funeral service was held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Meadow
Brook Church in the Town of Withee. Bishop Elvin Fox officiated. Interment was
held in Meadow Brook Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Leon Shirk, David
Zimmerman, David Ringler, Clair Horst, Vernon Shirk, and Leonard Zimmerman.
Family and friends were welcomed from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00
p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Anna’s residence.
Anna was born on September 27, 1954, the daughter of Samuel and Annie
(Burkholder) Martin in Lancaster, PA. She married Ernest Shirk on March 19,
1974, in Lancaster, PA. Anna was a lifetime member of the old Order Mennonite
Groffadale Conference.
Anna is survived by her husband, Ernest; eight children: Jay Paul (Dorothy) of
Thorp, George Lee (Sarah) Shirk of Thorp, Kristy Sue (Laverne) Nolt of Charles
City, IA, Ernie Ray (Louella) of Thorp, Lovina Ann (Weaver) Zimmerman of
Stanley, Michael Allen (Joyce) of Thorp, Benjie Ammon (Ruth) of Thorp, and
Beulah Mae of Thorp; 25 grandchildren: Beth, Neil, Violet, Jaymin, and Ernest
Shirk; Joseph Lamar, John Mark, Mark Grace, and Martha Shirk; Rosalie Joy, Judy
Renae, and Wilson Michael Nolt; Arlan Ray, Lena Mae, Kevin Lee, Clair Ryan, and
Larry James Shirk; Darla jean, Grace Annette, Kristy Ann, and Janita Mae
Zimmerman; Amy Larose, Shannon Scott, and Anji Michelle Shirk, and Kyler Brent
Shirk. She is further survived by two sisters: Lizzie (Amos) Stauffer and Emma
Siebel; four brothers: Henry Martin, Samuel (Ann) Martin, John Martin, and Lloyd
martin; a brother-in-law, David Zimmerman; and sister-in-law, Ella Mae Martin.
Anna is survived by two brothers-in-law: Leon (Esther) Shirk, and Vernon (Orpha)
Shirk; and six sisters-in-law: Eva Mae (Jim) Pabich, Pauline (David) Ringler,
Ilene (David) Zimmerman; Lorene (Clair) Horst, Carolyn (Neil) Stauffer, and
Grace Ann (Leonard) Zimmerman and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; a sister, Katie
Zimmerman; a brother, David Martin; a sister-in-law, Alice Martin; and a
brother-in-law, David Siebel.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.
