Schmidt, Nancy (1 May 1952 - 12 April 2016)
Nancy Schmidt, age 63, of Stevens Point, passed away unexpectedly April 12,
2016, at St. Michael’s Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Nancy was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday April 18,
2016, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church in Plover with Rev. Monsignor Jeffrey D.

from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel in Stevens Point. A
visitation was also held from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. on Monday at the church.
Memorials in lieu of flowers will be established in Nancy’s name for the Susan
G. Komen Foundation and the Humane Societies of Portage and Marathon counties.
Nancy was born May 1, 1952, in Milwaukee and was the daugher of Robert and
Shirley (McCormick) Ciesielski. As a child, her family moved to Plover and she
graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1970. She married David Schmidt on
July 1, 1972, at St. Bronislava Catholic Church.
Nancy earned her teaching degree from UW-SP in 1975, and taught in the Stevens
Point School System for 32 years, retiring in 2009. She taught business and
computer studies at SPASH, P.J. Jacobs, and Ben Franklin during her career.
Nancy enjoyed playing tennis and served as head coach of the SPASH Girl’s Tennis
Team for 13 years. Her teams earned four rips to the state tournament, all
reaching semi-final appearances and her 2002 Girl’s Team won the 1st WIAA
Sportsmanship Award for SPASH. She had a true passion for the game of tennis and
the young ladies she coached and thought of them as family. She also had great
love for her family and was especially proud to be “NANA” to six grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her husband, David; and their two daughters: Heidi
(Michael) Winterhack, DePere and Greta (Luke) Olson, Manawa; six grandchildren:
Orion, Avery, Elliot, Aurora, Katarina and Alexander; her parents: Bob and
Shirley Ciesielski, Stevens Point; her two brothers: Robert (Jolene) Ciesielski
and Mark (Cathy) Ciesielski, both of Plover.
Nancy’s family would like to thank all of the medical staff who cared for her
over these past five weeks.
