Lewis, Norbert Allen (22 January 1943 - 20 April 2016) With Flag
Norbert A. “Al”, “Allen”, “Louie”, Lewis 73, of Loyal passed away in the Town of
Loyal Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
Norbert Allen Lewis was born Jan. 22, 1943, in Marshfield, the son of Betty
Marie Lewis. He was raised in Loyal by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and
Elva Lewis, and received his education in area schools, graduating from Loyal
High School in 1961. After high school, Al worked for a short time at Borden
Foods in Loyal before being drafted into the U. S. Army July 9, 1964. He served
his country until his honorable discharge June 17, 1966. He returned to
Wisconsin and worked in Milwaukee in construction.
Al was united in marriage May 26, 1968, to Pondri E. Smitke at Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Marshfield. They lived in Milwaukee until moving to Loyal in 1973. Al
went to work for the Clark County Highway Department until retiring in 2002.
After retiring, Al enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, making wine,
smoking fish and helping his daughters, whether they needed it or not.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Pondri, of Loyal; two daughters: Kelly
Hainz and Kim (Darin) Bogdonovich, both of Loyal; three grandsons: Cody and
Dustin Garlach, and Bo Bogdonovich; one aunt, Clara Lewis; and two cousins, Lois
(Thomas) Ziegler-O’Donnell and Dr. Loretta (Edward) Grobe.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Elva Lewis;
his mother, Betty M. Lewis; his son-in-law, Steve Hainz; and his uncle, Leslie
Lewis.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at Trinity
Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate, and burial will
follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church, Satruday,
from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
