Westbay, Philenus Leander (11 DEC 1897 – 14 JAN 1971)

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 17 at the Hill Funeral Home, Greenwood, for Philenus Leander Westbay Sr., 73, of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), who died in Marshfield, Thursday, January 14, 1971, where he had been a surgical patient since January 7.

The Rev. Eugene Antrim, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery. Military graveside rites were conducted by the Wallis-Hinker Legion Post of Greenwood, of which he was a member.

Mr. Westbay was born December 11, 1897 at Crown Point, Indiana. He moved with his family to Porter County, Indiana and received his education in Porter County schools.

He was married to Anna Marie Vitoux, on November 11, 1919, in Valparaiso, Indiana. The couple lived in Porter County until December of 1959, when they came to the Greenwood area. Their home is a farm north of Greenwood in the town Warner.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Mrs. Anna Stratton, Mrs. Byron (Nancy) Garlach, and Mrs. Pauline Slingerland, all of Greenwood; Mrs. Ernest (Edna) Hebert, Valparaiso, Indiana; and Mrs. Richard (Irene) Carlberg, Hebron, Indiana; a son, Philenus L. Westbay Jr., Greenwood; 33 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Alice Swanson, Valparaiso, Indiana.
