Appleyard, Margery Ann (29 December 1931- 25 April 2016)
Margery Appleyard, 84, of Neillsville died Monday, April 25, 2016, at the
Milestone Senior Living Center in Eau Claire.
Margery Ann (Rucks) Appleyard was born in Berlin, WI Dec. 29, 1931, the second
youngest of 11 children. She married Melvin Appleyard Oct. 25, 1955.
They were dairy farmers, milking registered Holsteins, and Margery was the
typical farmer’s wife. She was a fantastic homemaker, creating a beautiful home.
They raised two children, Mary Beth of Altoona and David, who is still farming
in Neillsville along with Margery’s daugher-in-law, Lori Tiemann.
Margery enjoyed learning new crafts and was always sewing, gardening, knitting
or crocheting. She was active with church, serving on many committees at Calvary
Lutheran Church where she and Melvin were charter members. Margery was active in
the hilltop Homemakers for decades as well as serving on many county homemaker
committees. She enjoyed entering the Clark County Bakeoff each year.
She was a Camp Fire Girl and Cub Scout leader when her children were young. She
was a Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years. She helped
her children with their 4-H projects as well as other members with their sewing
and baking. For 30 years, she arranged a yearly trip to Chanhassen Dinner
Theater and shopping afterwards for the Clark County women. She always enjoyed
fair time and getting her many items ready for open class.
She was a stay-at-home Mom until her children were grown. She then worked at
Figi’s in Marshfield. Then she worked for 25 years making salads in the deli at
the IGA in Neillsville until she retired. She was always volunteering and always
had a smile on her face.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Calvary
Lutheran Church in Neillsville, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Pastor Chad Anderson officiated. Music was provided by Jodi Rueth, organist.
