Allan Wessel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wessel, and Irving Timmler, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Timmler, will received the State Farmer Degree at the State FFA
Convention to be held at Green Lake, June 12-14. This degree is the highest
award that can be won on a state basis in the FFA, and this year will be awarded
to 283 FFA members fin Wisconsin. Basis for selection of this degree is
Scholarship, Farming Program, Participation in FFA Activities and Leadership.
Both have been active in the FFA during their four years in high school. Irving
served as Secretary the past two years and Allan served as Reporter.
Allan has been a member of the FFA Judging teams and attended the American
Institute of Cooperation at Urbana, Ill. He has also attended the Cooperative
Youth Camp. His farming program consists of 1 cow, 3 ewes and 2 rams, and
management of the entire home flock and dairy herd testing. He also participated
in Forensics, Chorus, a member of the Discussion Group and served one year as
cheerleader.
Irving also has served on FFA Judging teams, attended Eo-op Youth Camp and has
conducted Fertilizer test plots on his home farm for two years. This past year
he served on the Junior Board of Directors of Clark Electric. His farming
program consists of two Purebred Holstein heifers, two Purebred rams and 45
ewes, in addition to dairy herd testing and record keeping for the past four
years. He received the Farming Program Award, which is presented annually to the
senior in agriculture with the most outstanding arming program. His other school
activities include participation in football and basketball, and member of the
Chorus and the Discussion Group. His plans for the future are to farm in
partnership with his dad.
Also attending the State Convention will be Roger Dillenbeck, FFA President, who
will be the Chapter Delegate, and Dan Boh, who will participate in the State FFA
Public Speaking Contest. Accompanying the group will be their advisor, Victor
Wagner.
