Army Pvt. Duane T. Olson, Route 2, Greenwood (Clark Co.), Wisconsin, complete
four weeks of advance training with the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley,
Kansas, October 21, 1961.
Noted for its combat record in both World Wars, the “Big Red One” division was
recently designated a Strategic Army Force (STRAF) unti, as part of the Army
augmentation program. The division is now being armed, equipped and trained to
be combat ready for deployment in the recent limited or general warfare anywhere
in the world. The 17-year-old soldier attended Greenwood High School.
