Brahmer, Chester “Chet” (28 OCT 1924 - 26 APR 2016)
Chester “Chet” Brahmer of Rib Lake, age 92, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at
Aspirus Care and Rehab in Medford where he had resided since June of 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Whittlesey with Father Phil Juza officiating.
Burial will take place at St. Ann’s Cemetery in the Township of Greenwood.
Honorary pallbearers will be Renea Henke, Mindy Brahmer, Melanie Annala and
Nicole Schreiner. Pallbearers will be Ashley Wilson, Todd, Michael, Kurt and
Derek Brahmer and Tyler Henke. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday,
April 29 with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service, and from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
Saturday, April 30 at OLPH Catholic Church.
Chet was born in Medford on January 27, 1924 to the late Anton “Tony” and
Gertrude (Meyer) Brahmer. He attended Holy Rosary Graded School, Medford. On
June 25, 1947 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, Chester married the
love of his life Bernadine Scheithauer and she preceded him in death on October
16, 2012.
After school Chester worked for his father at Brahmer & Earl Concrete Co. for 5
years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1943 until 1946, where
he achieved the rank of Corporal and received a good conduct medal and marksman.
After his service, Chester returned to the Rib Lake area and worked at Hurd
Windows Mfg. in Medford from 1946 to 1954. He then opened Chet and Bernie’s
Tavern in the Town of Greenwood, and operated it for 55 years until his
retirement in 2008.
Chet played baseball for various leagues and played softball for Hurds. He
enjoyed fishing, hunting, staying at the cabin at the lake, playing cribbage and
cards, ice fishing, tending bar and serving his customers and community. Chet
also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of OLPH
Catholic Church, Whittlesey, past member of Taylor County Tavern League,
Interwald Wanderers Snowmobile Club, Taylor County Sportsman’s and was a
lifetime member of the Medford V.F.W.
He is survived by his children, Duane “Butch” (Beverly) Brahmer of Medford,
Gerald (La Nah) Brahmer of Medford, Gregory (Lorraine) Brahmer of Rib Lake and
Brenda (Robert “Butch”) Schreiner of Athens; nine grandchildren, Renea (Monty)
Henke, Todd (Katie) Brahmer, Mindy (Corey Penney) Brahmer, Melanie (Anthony)
Annala, Michael (Amanda) Brahmer, Kurt and Derek Brahmer, Nicole Schreiner and
Ashley (Jim) Wilson; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers,
Aubrey (June) Brahmer, Aaron (Loretta) Brahmer and Victor (Virginia) Brahmer;
and three sisters, Faye, Fern and Mary Ann Brahmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Chet’s family to be designated at a
later date.
