Knorr, Velva Y. (Bjerke) Mesner (17 DEC 1930 - 17 APR 2016)

Velva Y. Knorr, age 85, of Colby, formerly of St. Paul, MN and Madison, WI, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at The Waterford in Colby under the tender care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services and the Assisted Living Staff.

A Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, April 22, 2016 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Pastor John Knorr will officiate. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 am until time of service. The internment will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday at Highland Memory Gardens in Madison.

Velva was born on December 17, 1930, the daughter of Magnus and Florence (Knee) Bjerke in Chandler, MN. She attended Chandler High School. Velva was united in marriage in 1948 to Harlan Mesner. He preceded her in death in 1951. On August 9, 1954, she was united in marriage to Earl Knorr. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2002.

Velva worked in food service for the St. Paul and Madison school districts. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Velva is survived by five children: Faye (Tim) Cagle of Tempe, AZ, David (Joyce) Mesner of Duluth, MN, Dan (Sherry) Knorr of Colby, Duane Knorr of Dane and Barb (Bill) Parker of Oconomowoc; 11 grandchildren: Joshua, Jenny, Katy, Phillip, Christian, Johnathan, Nathan, Chad, Danielle, Ben and Brandon; 14 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Lona (Charles) Cantrell of McMinnville, TN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Harlan and Earl; seven brothers and sisters: Meda Buchan, Everett Bjerke, Leila Helmke, Virgil Bjerke, Beryl Bose, Frances Scotting and Daryl Bjerke.
