Meyer, Joseph “Joe” J. (31 OCT 1944 - 2 MAY 2016)

Joseph “Joe” J. Meyer, age 93, of Allman Avenue, Medford, passed away on Monday, May 2 at his residence in the city of Medford under the loving care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.

Services will be held on Friday, May 6 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with Fr. Phil Juza and Deacon Joe Stefancin, officiating. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford where there will be military rites performed by the Medford Area Military Honors Team. Pallbearers are Chris and Dale Meyer, Dale Ludwig, John Danen, Bill Hayden and Brian Krause.

Visitation will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford from 9:30 AM until the time of services at 11 AM on Friday, May 6.

Joe was born on January 4, 1923 at Medford, to John and Agnes (Pritzel) Meyer.

He attended Holy Rosary Catholic School, Medford.

His first marriage was on November 15, 1948 at Medford to Lillian Lapacek and she preceded him in death July 7, 1968. His second marriage was on October 2, 1974, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford to Mary Ann Reynolds and she survives.

He was a WW II veteran having served from 1943-1945 in the European Theatre. After the military, he returned to Medford and worked as a clerk at the Co-op Store for many years until his retirement. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, playing cares, reading and traveling. Joe was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, and a life member of the Medford V.F.W. #5729.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Meyer, Medford; children Dennis (Jae) Meyer of Reno, Nevada and Michael (Cora) Meyer of Elgin, IL; grandchildren Christopher (Claudia) Meyer, Jenifer (Ross) Antonacci, Sarah (Simon) Hughes, Anne (Ian) McWilliams; great grandchildren Alexander and Alexis Meyer, Aiden Hughes; a brother Ray Meyer of Medford.

Joe is predeceased by his parents, John and Agnes (Pritzel) Meyer; siblings John Meyer, Edward “Scotty” Meyer, Fr. Bernard Meyer, SM, twins Lawrence and Leon Meyer, Margaret Danen, Marie Hayden and Regina Querin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be given to the Holy Rosary Catholic School, 215 W. Washington Ave., Medford, WI 54451.
