Taylor, Hattie E. (26 October 1911 - 5 May 2016)
Hattie E. Taylor, 104, of Neillsville entered into Eternal Life Thursday, May 5,
2016, at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.
Hattie was born Oct. 26, 1911, in Rib Lake to Henry and Hattie (Thiel) Mathias.
She graduated from Rib Lake High School in 1928. Hattie continued her education
at St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Marshfield, graduating in 1931. She married
Elmer J. Taylor Sept. 2, 1933, in Chicago, IL; he passed away in 1994. Hattie
worked as a nurse in Marshfield and Medford for many years and was instrumental
in starting Hope Hospice in Taylor County.
Hattie and Elmer owned and operated Taylor Funeral Home in Rib Lake from 1934 to
1964. She was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rib Lake.
She enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Mission, TX, with her husband.
Hattie was a member of Rib Lake Commercial Club and Century Club. In her spare
time, Hattie liked spending time with her family and doing crafts.
Hattie is survived by her children: John (Frances) Taylor of Bellevue, NE, and
Barbara “Bobbie” (Norman) Saracoff of Neillsville; grandchildren: Taylor
Saracoff of Mosinee, Jonel (Todd) Brown of Marshfield, Julie (Jon) Costello of
Bellevue, NE, and Amy (Bruce) Prenda of Lincoln, NE; brothers: Daniel and Glenn
(Darlene) Mathias.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer; brothers: Walter,
Raymond, Lawrence, William and Henry Mathias; and sister, Bernita Edens.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church,
11284 USH 10 Marshfield, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev.
Jordan Scott officiated. Burial was at the Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake.
Memorials may be designated to Ministry Home Care Hospice or Hope Hospice.
Hattie’s family would like to thank the staff at Neillsville Retirement
Community for all of the loving and personal care that was given to Hattie.
The Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids assisted the family.
