Kitzhaber, Mr./Mrs. Lawrence (Gold – 28 NOV 1961)
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kitzhaber observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary on
Thanksgiving Day. A 10:00 a.m. Anniversary Mass was celebrated by the Rev.
Edward Hartung in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.).
Mrs. Greg Rogillio, their eldest daughter, and Raymond Kitzhaber, their eldest
son, acted as attendants during the ceremony.
Mrs. Kitzhaber wore a white orchid and Mrs. Rogillio wore a Cymbidium orchid.
The men wore yellow roses. The altar was decorated with yellow flowers. The
flowers were given by Tom and "Buzz" Stiefvater, grandsons of Mr. and Mrs.
Kitzhaber.
A family dinner and supper were served to members of the immediate family.
On Saturday, November 25, 1961, the Kitzhaber's held Open House at their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Kitzhaber were married November 28, 1911, by Father J.J. Donnelly
in the Immaculate Conception Rectory, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Their attendants were
his sister, Kathryn, now Mrs. Bowen, Davenport, Iowa, and his brother, the late
Albert Kitzhaber.
Lawrence Kitzhaber was born February 24, 1885 in Norway, Iowa, to the late
Joseph and Mary Kitzhaber. He received his education in Norway.
Mrs. Kitzhaber, the former Mabel McDowell, daughter of the late Elmer and
Josephine McDowell, was born October 6, 1888 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She received
her education in Iowa and Madison, S.D., and was a school teacher there before
her marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Kitzhaber farmed at Ryan, Iowa before coming to Wisconsin in 1920.
They settled on a farm one mile east of Greenwood, until 1930, when they
purchased the farm now occupied by their son Bernard. In 1957 they moved to
their present home 1/2 mile east of the home place. The Kitzhaber's are both in
good health at this time and Lawrence still helps with some of the farm work.
Mr. and Mrs. Kitzhaber are the parents of the following children: Mrs. Greg
(Geneva) Rogillio, Greenwood; Mrs. Richard (Catherine) Deiler, Chicago; Ray
(Bud) Kitzhaber, Mosinee; Mrs. Calvin (Dolores0 Cornwell, St. Paul Park, Minn.;
Mrs. Mike (Lorraine) Klapatauskas, Willard; Bernard Kitzhaber, Greenwood; Mrs.
Wallace (Peggy) Brey, Neillsville; Mrs. James (Jo Ann) Suda, Gurnee, Ill.; and
Ronald Kitzhaber, Greenwood. A daughter, Loretta, died in 1942, and son, Elmer,
died in infancy.
They also have 29 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Those present for the occasion were: Mr. and Mrs. Greg Rogillio, Mr. and Mrs.
Bernard Kitzhaber, Alan, Ann, Gerry and Beth, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kitzhaber,
Nicky and Randy, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Klapatauskas, Mickey, Donna and
Diane, Willard; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Suda, Bobby, Carole and Donnie, Gurnee, Ill.;
Mr. and Mrs. Dick Deiler, Chicago' Mr. and Mrs. Cal Cornwell, Kathy, Virgie,
Larry, Tim and Bill, St. Paul Park, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Wally Brey, Jim, Art,
Patty, Davey, Linda, Stevie and Charlie, Neillwville; and Mr. and Mrs. Bud
Kitzhaber, Mary Jo and Dennis, Mosinee.
