Briggs, Charles D. (21 June 1929 - 11 May 2016)

Charles D. Briggs, 86, of Gilman, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Oakbrook Health and Rehab Center, Thorp, under the care of Ministry Hospice. He was born on June 21, 1929, in Columbia City, IN to the late Charles R. and Clara (Schultz) Briggs. Charles grew up in Indiana, and on December 18, 1949, married Lola “Peg” Mantle. The couple farmed there and moved to the Boyd area in 1974.

The couple moved to the Gilman area in 1985 and Charles has lived there since. He loved all things farming and was a diehard Allis Chalmers Tractor man.

He is survived by his children: Tom (Carol Peloquin) Briggs of Stanley, Steve (Peggy) Briggs of Colby, Sharon Briggs of Dorchester, Karen Briggs of Alabama and Diane (Pete) Jones of Chippewa Falls; 11 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife (1999) and his parents.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at the Plombon Funeral Home, Stanley, with Rev. Bruce Jahnke officiating. Burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery, Stanley. Visitation was Saturday, noon until the time of service at the funeral home.
