Kohlnhofer, Clayton Edward (17 SEP 1927 – 22 MAY 2016)
Clayton E. Kohlnhofer, 88, Loyal, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Gold
Horizons Assisted Living in Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m.,
on Wednesday, May 25, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Steve Brice
officiated. Burial followed in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Felix Vasquez, Bill Kohlnhofer, Corey Kohlnhofer, Casper Kohlnhofer, Anthony
Kohlnhofer, Kaizer Eikleberry and Jo Michael Kohlnhofer. Military rites were
conducted by the Loyal American Legion Post #175.
Clayton Edward Kohlnhofer was born on Sept. 17, 1927, in the town of Warner,
rural Greenwood, to Joe and Margaret (nee Shober) Kohlnhofer. He was raised on
the family farm and received his education at Christophersen School. Clayton
entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 12, 1946 and served until his honorable discharge
on April 22, 1947. He returned to Greenwood and married Geraldine L. Spencer on
May 30, 1949, in Dorchester. They farmed in the town of Warner until retiring in
1988. After farming, he worked all across the state of Wisconsin for Jeff Ossman,
doing custom field work, until 1999. He was known by many as "Statewide."
Clayton was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Loyal American
Legion Post #175.
He is survived by one daughter: Judy Brecht of Spencer; three sons: Bill
Kohlnhofer of Neillsville, Jim (Sharon) Kohlnhofer of Kansas City, Kansas, and
Ritch (Kathy) Kohlnhofer of Neillsville; nine grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law: Rosie Kohlnhofer of Easton; one
sister: Barbara DeMar of McHenry, Ill.; one brother: Franny Kohlnhofer of
Greenwood; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geraldine, on Nov. 26, 2006;
one son, Bob Kohlnhofer; three brothers: John, Victor and Joe Kohlnhofer; and
one sister: Magdaline Kettner.
