Diers, Cecilia Matilda (Sommer) (16 MAR 1919 - 12 MAY 2016)

Cecilia M. Diers, age 97, of Poniatowski, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Poniatowski. Rev. Thomas Huff will officiate.

A time of visitation will be held on Monday May 16, 2016 from 4pm until 7pm at the church and again on Tuesday from 9am until time of services. Burial will be held in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Poniatowski.

Cecilia Matilda was born March 16, 1919 the daughter of Otto and Elizabeth (Fischer) Sommer.
She attended school at The Green schoolhouse.

Cecilia was united in marriage to Anthony Diers on June 29, 1937 at Holy Trinity Church in Poniatowski. Sadly, he passed away on May 6, 1991.

Cecilia and her husband dairy farmed high quality jersey cattle in rural Edgar. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Poniatowski. Her passion was taking care of her husband and four children. Cecilia was an amazing homemaker who enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening. She loved playing cards, especially sheepshead. Cecilia enjoyed talking on the phone to her friends, neighbors and relatives. She loved selling burgers in the food wagon at auctions. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children, grandchildren and family. She will be dearly missed.

Cecilia is survived by her two daughters: Eleanor (George, deceased) Wisnewski of Edgar and Elmira (Dale) Masanz of Edgar; her daughter-in-law Mary Jo (Ron “Butch” deceased) Diers of Athens and her sister-in-law Josie Sommers of Stratford. She is further survived by 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren: John (Trish) Masanz of Wausau and their children: Anthony, Grace and Ian; Patti Diers of Athens and her child Lucas Diers; Jill (Scott) Schmitz of Weston and their child: Elizabeth; Vicki (Mike) Tessmer of Oshkosh and their children: Emma and Ethan; Sarah (Matt) Schick of Greenfield and their children: Gavin and Pieper; Jim (Annmarie) Diers of Athens and their children: Alyssa, Jared, Hannah and Stella; Bradley (Shannon) Wolf of Marshall and their children: Colin and Trinity and Kate (Jeff) Swan of Glendale, AZ and their children Carter, Olivia and Carson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Anthony; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; her son Ron “Butch” Diers and her daughter Elizabeth Wolf.

The family would like to thank Aspirus Comfort Care for their kind and compassionate care of Cecilia.
