Washington, D.C. May 14, 1962 – Jerome Lange, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) has
received an appointment to the U.S. Naval academy at Annapolis, Maryland,
according to word received today by Cong. Lester Johnson (Ninth District, Wis.)
from the Academy.
The Congressman nominated Lange as the principal candidate for the appointment
last December. Since that time he has passed the physical, scholastic and
aptitude tests required for entrance to the Academy. He will begin his four-year
course there in July.
Lange, 17, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lange, who operate the Hemlock
Jerseys farm on Rt. 3, Greenwood. He is vice president of the senior class at
Greenwood High School and an officer of the Longwood 4-H Club. In the latter
capacity, he sparked a safety campaign which resulted in national recognition,
not only for the club, but also for Clark County's 4-H Club program.
