Stieber, Joyce (Merwin) (22 MAR 1925 - 19 MAY 2016)
Joyce Stieber, 91, of Rib Mountain passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at home
after a short battle with cancer.
She was born March 22, 1925 in Wausau to the late Howard and Grace (Cendt)
Merwin.
Joyce attended grade school in Wausau and Abbotsford and was a graduate of Colby
High School. On July 13, 1948, she married David Stieber at St. Mary's Catholic
Church, Colby.
They later moved to Friendship where Joyce and David were turkey producers for
twenty five years. They spent their leisure time at their cottage in Phillips
and wintering in Texas and Florida. Joyce was a past president of VFW Burns Post
#388 Ladies Auxiliary and a long time member of the Pine Tree Quilters. She
enjoyed reading, gardening, walking and taking boat rides. She was an
accomplished quilter and was always willing to patiently share her quilting
skills.
Survivors include her children, Jeanne (Robert) Batten of Marshfield, Janice
Klein of Mosinee, Daniel (Kathi) Stieber of Kronenwetter, seven grandchildren,
Beth Hardinger, David Batten, Heather (Brian) McKnight, Amie and Kevin Stieber,
Mark (Anne) Klein, Kate (Warren) Harms and nine great grandchildren, Zach,
Grace, Levi, Steven, Owen, Isaiah, Kjerstin, Maggie and Ian.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, David and brother, Robert Merwin.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 23,
2016 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 1104 S. 9th Ave., Wausau. Father Dan
Thelen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Colby.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Helke Funeral
Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until
