Babler, Dr. Bernard (19 March 1914 - 10 June 1974)
Dr. Bernard Babler, 60, a native of Humbird, died of cancer June 10, in
Evanston, Il. He was born March 19, 1914, in Humbird, and attended grade and
high school there until the family moved to Madison. He completed high school in
Madison and earned B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Wisconsin. He
received a PhD. in chemistry from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.
Dr. Babler was chairman of the chemistry dept. of De Paul University, Chicago,
before joining the faculty of the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle Campus,
where he taught chemistry 27 years.
At the time of his death, he was executive secretary of the chemistry
department.
Funeral series were June 13, from St. Jerome’s Church, Chicago, and burial was
made in All Saints Cemetery.
He is survived by his widow, Bernice; a son, Dr. James Babler of Loyola
University; three daughters: Susan Powers, Maribeth and Pamela; three grandsons:
a brother, Ellsworth Babler of Black River Falls; and a sister, Cecelia Eustice
of La Crosse.
