Fitzmaurice, Gary Lee (20 November 1952 - 5 June 2016)

Gary Fitzmaurice, 63, of Neillsville died Sunday, June 5, 2016, at his home.

Gary Lee Fitzmaurice was born Nov. 20, 1952, in Neillsville, the son of Philip J. and Edith J. (Vinney) Fitzmaurice. He attended grade school in Humbird and graduated from Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan High School in 1970. In 1971, he began a 33-year career at the Neillsville Muffler Factory in Neillsville.

He was united in marriage to Darla M. Opelt July 8, 1989 in Neillsville. After the muffler factory closed, he worked for Chili Implement for a year and then as a flagman for American Asphalt for 9 years. He retired last year due to his health.

Gary was a long-time member of the Wildlife Turkey Federation. He loved bowling, hunting, fishing and anything to do with being outdoors. Most of all, though he loved being with his girls and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Darla; three children: Jennifer (Matt) Luchterhand of Neillsville, Brittany (Adam Krohn) Fitzmaurice of Granton, and Noelle Fitzmaurice, who is service at an Air Force base in Italy; two grandchildren: Damien Luchterhand and Logan Krohn; his mother, Edith Fitzmaurice of Humbird; seven siblings: Phil (Gerzell) Fitzmaurice of Janesville, Vicki (Robert) Dobson of Humbird, Mary Rochester of Neillsville, Kathy (Mark) Hoge of Humbird, Daniel (Wendy) Fitzmaurice of Humbird, Timothy (Rebecca) Fitzmaurice of Humbird, and Julie (Randy) Johnson of Humbird, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Philip “Rusty” Fitzmaurice, a niece, Heather Kinchen and a brother-in-law, Bruce Rochester.

Funeral services for Gary will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, with visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home. Pastor Terry Marg will officiate. Interment will be in the Mentor Cemetery in Humbird.

Honorary casketbearers are his grandchildren, Damien Luchterhand and Logan Krohn.

Casketbearers are Rick Dimmitt, Eugene Opelt, Robert Fitzmaurice, Steve Webster, Adam Davel and Keith Clemens.
