Howard, Charles Ray (12 AUG 1883 – 24 DEC 1962)

Charles Ray Howard, affectionately known as "Ray", died December 24, 1962. Ray's death was very sudden. He did the usual things during the day, and retired early in the evening.

Ray was born in Pandora, Ohio, on August 12, 1883 and came to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) in the Fall of 1905.

He had concern for people and it was reflected in his work at the local hotel, which he managed from 1909 until 1944. At that time he moved to Chicago to live with his sister, Mrs. Beatrice Rieger.

During the war and until 1952 he worked in a tool shop in Chicago.

He is survived by his sister, Beatrice Rieger, three nephews, Jack and William Rieger of Chicago, ad Howard Trapp and one niece, Mrs. Marguerite (Trapp) Tavin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Bowen) Howard. She died three years after their marriage, during the flu epidemic.

Ray was not one who complained, but had an optimistic outlook on many things.

He sang in the Methodist Church Choir and did a goodly number of things to keep the interest alive.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 28 at the Hill Funeral Home with Gene Carlson officiating. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
