Simpson, Donald D. (7 April 1949 - 1 June 2016) With Flag

Donald D. Simpson, 67, of Neillsville passed away the evening of June 1, 2016, at home with his family at his side, after living with multiple myeloma for more than for years; a man of many talents, skills, interests and stories, he will be missed by many.

Donald was born April 7, 1949, in Iowa Falls, IA, to Robert and Beulah (Allen) Simpson. He served in the U. S. Army from 1966 to 1969. After completing service, he sampled many professions and odd jobs, spending the most time in law enforcement and medical fields. Donald graduated from the Iowa Central Community College with a degree in nursing in 1984 as the only male nurse in this class, from that time, he practiced nursing in Russellville, AR, and La Crosse in orthopedics; Joplin, MO, in trauma; and at the Memorial Medical Center OR/ER in Neillsville. He retired from nursing in 2011.

At the time of his passing, Donald had been married to his wife Cynthia for almost 30 years, and he considered their two children among his greatest accomplishments. Their family began in La Crosse, moved to Joplin, MO, and then settled in Neillsville.

Donald enjoyed many interests and hobbies and inspired collaboration throughout groups and communities. Just a few of his groups, projects and hobbies include: forming a Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter in Joplin, MO; participating as an active member of the American Legion, American Legion Riders, Sons of the American Legion, VFW and the 40 & 8; attending the Honor Flight as a guardian and then as a veteran; sewing, woodworking, hunting, collecting and motorcycling. He has been honored with countless awards and accolades but was ultimately motivated by the ability to help others.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Robert Simpson, and younger brother, Bill Simpson.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Anibas) Simpson of Neillsville; daughter, Stacie Simpson of Pretty Place, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Molly (Brosius) Simpson of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his mother, Beulah (Allen) Simpson of Iowa Falls, IA; sisters and brother-in-law, Jackie Simpson and Mari Beth and Shawn Toomsen of Iowa Falls, IA; brother, Tom Simpson of Storm Lake, IA; nine nieces and nephews and their families; father-and-mother-in-law Edward and Donna Anibas of Osseo; as well as friends who are close as family, Bob and Carol Lee of La Crosse, Bill and Barb Comstock of Neillsville and the entire Boulder Ridge Deer Camp.

Donald’s family is excited to report that, after death, he was accepted into the University of Wisconsin-Madison Body Donor Program for his physical body to be used for the education of future medical professionals.

A funeral service will not be immediately held, however a memorial/celebration of life will be hosted at a later date.

The Simpson family would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Regional Cancer Center and Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, as well as Black River Falls Hospice for their care.
