The freshmen students from Luther Hospital School of Nursing received their
nurses' caps in a traditional ceremony Sunday afternoon, April 21, 1963, at
Schofield Hall Auditorium, Wisconsin State College, Eau Claire. Among the 45
young women presented with caps was Lila Schwarze, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Orlin Schwarze, R. 3, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.).
The entire student body of the school entered the auditorium attired in their
blue and white uniforms. The Rev. Howard Timmerman, Evangelical Lutheran Church
of Our Redeemer, offered the invocation. This was followed by a musical
selection by the Nursing students' Chorus, directed by Mrs. Roland Hopmann. Mrs.
Eldon Hill, R.N., gave the address. The president of the Student Government
Association, Miss Sally Olson, greeted the class.
Caps were place by Miss Helen Bruclik, director of nursing, and Miss Patricia
Finn, assistant director. Miss Olson handed a lighted lamp to each newly capped
freshman. As a group, the students recited the Florence Nightingale pledge to
signify their entry intot he profession.
A reception for nurses, their families and friends, was held in the Epiphany
Lutheran Church Hall following the reception.
