Camp Pendleton, Calif. (FHTNC) – Marine Private Thomas M. LeDuc, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles E. LeDuc of Route 1, Owen (Clark Co., Wisconsin, completed the
four-week individual combat training course, April 23, 1963, at the Second
Infantry Training Regiment, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California.
The Second Infantry Training Regiment, where Marine undergo combat training upon
completion of recruit training, is located at Camp San Onefre, a portion of Camp
Pendleton.
During recruit training, the Marine has been trained in physical fitness, the
history and traditions of the Marine Corps, rifle marksmanship, close order
drill and discipline.
At Camp Pendleton, the emphasis of discipline continues, but the training shifts
to tactical matters, field and combat skills needed by the fighting Marine.
Under carefully selected instructors, the Marine learns to take his place in the
small fighting units – the four-man fire team and the 14-man squad.
