K.I. Sawyer AFB, Michigan – Airman First Class Ronald L. Metcalf of Greenwood
(Clark Co.) Wisconsin, has been awarded the United States Air Force Commendation
Medal for an act of heroic service while stationed here.
Airman Metcalf, 25, a special vehicle repairman with the Air Defense Command's
56th Transportation Squadron, while at a lake near here, heard cries for help
from three swimmers in distress. He quickly found a rowboat and rushed to their
aid, preventing their possible drowning.
A graduate of Greenwood High School, the airman in the son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy
G. Metcalf of R.R.!, Greenwood. He is married to the former Audrey K. Havelin of
Owen, Wisconsin.
