Selk, Mr. and Mrs. Augie (Golden - 2 July 1974)
Mrs. Glen Klix, 107 Oak St. Neillsville, entertained 70 guests at her home at a
4:30 p.m. dinner Sunday commemorating the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and
Mrs. Augie Selk, 207 Grand Ave., Neillsville.
Augie Selk and Lillian Albrecht were Married July 2, 1924, in Milwaukee. They
purchased the H. Degner Hardware Store in Chili in 1925 and operated it until
November 1930 when they sold to E. Haslow. The Selks vacationed in California
for the balance of that winter and then returned to Neillsville, where they
purchased the Standard Oil bulk station which Mr. Selk operated for 12 years.
In 1942 Mr. and Mrs. Selk moved to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas where he
managed a furniture department for Montgomery Ward at Harlingen for a year when
it was necessary to move back to Wisconsin for health reasons. He was then
employed by the Northern Auto Supply Company of Marshfield as a salesman.
They lived in Wisconsin Rapids for two years until the Neillsville store opened,
then moved back to Neillsville to be centrally located in this territory. Mr.
Selk remained with Northern Auto for 20 years until his retirement.
The Selks built their home on Grand Ave. in 1959. They have spent some time each
winter in warmer climates.
Mr. Selk is a World War I Veteran and served in Europe. He is a member of the
American Legion. Both the Selks are members of Calvary Lutheran Church and of
the Neillsville Country Club. She is a member of the VFW Auxiliary, of the
American Lutheran Church Women and of the National Federation of Republican
Women.
They have one son, James, of Madison, who is editorial page editor of the
Wisconsin State Journal. There are three grandchildren.

and Mrs. Gerald Fox, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Don Beck and Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Frechette, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Haas, Neenah; Mr and Mrs. James
Voigt, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. William Meyer, Merrill; Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Tanner,
Susan and Tom Tanner, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Muir, Mr. and Mrs. Willard
Behling, and Lawrence and William Behling, Marshfield; and Mr. and Mrs. John
Moen, Wisconsin Rapids.
