He grew up on a farm near Colby and attended school in that area as well. In
1954 he met his future bride, Gladys Kuenzi, and they were later married in
Abbotsford on Nov. 1, 1958. Sam served in the U.S. Army, stationed out of the
Chicago area. Together they lived several places before settling in Wausau in
1967. Sam worked at Foremost Foods in Rothschild for 30 years. He enjoyed the
outdoors hunting, fishing and trapping. He loved and respected animals,
including his springer spaniels.
Survivors include his children, Sonia (Peter) Gestner and Tim (Donna) Gosse;
grandchildren, Katie (Craig) Buttke, Julie Gestner (Dustin Winter), Matthew
Gestner, Preston (Chelsee) Hanson and Seazon Hanson; eight great-grandchildren;
a sister-in-law, Bernice Gosse; nephews; a niece; a cousin; and dog, Buttons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, on Nov. 9, 2008; parents, Henry
and Doris; a brother, Victor Gosse; two sisters, Ione Bahr and Delila Hamel; and
two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Hamel and Sammy Bahr.
