Archambo, Jim (18 MAR 1918 – 25 MAY 1968)
Word was received of the accidental death of Jim Archambo in a Canadian drowning
accident Saturday.
Mr. Archambo, 50, was a former Abbotsford resident, now living at Hoyt Lakes,
Minn. He was the brother of Royal Archambo and Mrs. Arnold (Elizabeth) Haack.
Another man also died in the boating accident. Mr. Archambo, another friend, and
a guide, whose names were not immediately known, had been fishing a a Canadian
lake about a six hour ride from his home. When attempting to start a motor on
their boat, it suddenly lurched, throwing them into the water. Mr. Archambo and
the guide drowned, while the third man was saved.
The bodies, up until Monday, had not been recovered. Dragging operations were
discontinued because of rainy weather.
Jim Archambo was born at Abbotsford March 18, 1918, and was educated in the
Abbotsford schools. He was married to the former Mercedes Frome of Colby. He
served in the armed services and at one time he and George Vetter operated a
service station for Stanley Thomson Oil Co. at Chippewa Falls. He worked in a
feed mill at Abbotsford, ten took over the feed mill in Athens.
In 1949 he went to Phillips to be employed at the Flambeau Milling. About five
years ago they moved to Hoyt Lakes, Minn., where he was employed in the mines.
The family lived at Abbotsford a number of years.
He is survived by his wife and five children, besides his brother and sister.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Xavier (Art) Archambo, and
two brothers, Victor and Ted.

The body of James Archambo was received and committal services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at Hoyt Lakes, Minn.
Jim Archambo, formerly of Abbotsford, was one of two fishermen drowned in Oak Lake near Kenora, Ontario, Canada, May 25, 1968.
The body was recovered last week Wednesday. According to a report, the second body has not yet been recovered.
Attending the rites at teh cemetery Saturday were Royal Archambo, Mr. and Mrs.
Arnold Laack, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Archambo, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Laack and Mr. and
Mrs. Ervin Martens, all of Abbotsford.
