Representatives of the state highway department met with officials from the
cities of Colby and Abbotsford and the towns of Hull and Colby to explain
highway development plans for both 13 and 29 in this area.
The meeting was at the Abbotsford city hall Wednesday night, June 19.
Joel Germond, district planning engineer from Wisconsin Rapids, said that future
planning calls for Highway 29, which will then be a four-lane highway, to bypass
Abbotsford south of the city limits, with Highway 13 running about one-half mile
east of its present course past both Colby and Abbotsford.
Both Abbotsford and Colby have requested advance preliminary planning by the
state to help with local planning and future land use.
Germond stated that future planning calls for Highway 29 to be constructed to
freeway standards, as a four-land divided highway with limited accesses only at
interchanges.
An interchange will be constructed at the intersection of Highways 13 and 29,
southeast of Abbotsford, Germond said. Another possible interchange is being
considered at the west edge of Abbotsford, and the possibility an on interchange
at the intersection of Highway 13 and N at Colby is also being considered.
Germond indicated that there is no foreseeable schedule for the construction and
relocation of the highways.
