Mast, Eli L. (16 MAY 1945 – 27 JUN 2016)

Eli L. Mast, age 71, of Unity, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.

Eli was born May 16, 1945 in Millersburg, Ohio the youngest son of Levi J. Mast and Saloma C. Raber. He attended Clark Parochial School in Clark, OH . Eli worked as an electrician since 1964, owning and operating Mast Electric in Unity and was a dairy farmer since 1975. He also was ordained a minister in 1966. He was united in marriage to Darlene Louise Diller on May 16, 1964 at the Wilson Mennonite Chapel in Wilson, WI.

Together they raised 11 children; Samuel and Cathy Mast of Benton, OH, Daniel and Beth Mast of Shippensburg, PA, Dervin and Rachel Druist of Dry Run, PA, Daniel and Jewel Otto of Mechanicstown, OH, Saloma Mast of Unity, Christopher and Susanna Nierwienski of Seven Valleys, PA, Joseph and Esther Mast of Abbotsford, WI, Benjamin and Esther Mast of La Monte, MO, Matthew and Keturah Burkholder of Auburn, NY, Titus and Mary Peifer of Loyal, WI, Justus and Ruth Christophel of East Berlin, PA. He was blessed with 31 grandsons and 30 granddaughters and 1 great grandson. Eli is further survived by two brothers; Christian Mast of Millersburg, OH, Abe (Betty) Mast of Millersburg, OH and one sister; Mattie (Amos) Yoder of Huntsville, AR.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Darlene on January 11, 2008, one grandson; Anthony Christophel, two brothers; Jonas Mast and Levi Mast and one brother-in-law; Jacob Hofer.

He will be greatly missed by all who enjoyed his friendly personality and his gift of memorization of scriptures and poems.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Pleasant Ridge Mennonite Church (County Highway N) Thorp. Harlan Martin, John Burkholder, Edward Ker and Darrell Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in the Owen Mennonite Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Mast, Dervin Druist, Lester Eby, Joseph Hursh, Stephen Martin, and Phillip Mast. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 1, at the Owen Mennonite Church (County Highway N) Owen.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
