E. LaVern Dahlby was born on New Year's Eve 1923 to Erna (Wick) and Ludvig Dahlby in Osseo, WI. He was raised in Osseo and attended the Osseo Grade School and graduated from Lincoln Hill High School. Following high school, Vern enrolled at the University of WI River Falls as a pre-pharmacy student. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and served with the Medical Corp. In 1944, he was united in marriage to Lavore Ellenson and they later divorced. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, he started his career in Loyal, teaching science and later he started working with the combined chorus'. Vern immensely enjoyed directing their yearly performance called "Show Business". These musical performances included many students, and were so successful that several were televised and sponsored by the community. A few years later, he assumed the position of band director as well.

Vern left the teaching profession in 1964 to begin a sales career with Equitable Life Insurance Company. In 1970, he was promoted to district manager and served in that capacity until 1985.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, in Loyal, and over the years served as president, financial secretary, choir director and board member. Vern was also a former president and director of the Loyal School Board of Education, was a member of the Rotary Club and served as their president, secretary, and treasurer, was a member of the Loyal Lions Club and served as commander, board member and Chaplin of the American Legion, and was also a long time member of the Elk's Lodge #665.

Vern enjoyed being the director of the Clark County Male Chorus. He served on the Clark County Draft Board and was president of the former Clark County Teacher's Association. Vern was awarded Loyal's Citizen of the Year Award in 1994, and again in 2015.

While he loved to serve his community, his family was his total pride and joy! His most precious moments were time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Jene, of Marshfield, WI; 6 children: Rhen Adamson (Joe Deckert) of Hood River, OR, Steve (Julie) of River Falls, WI, Tom (Elizabeth) of Marshfield, WI, Jane (John) Schieb of Pittsburgh, PA, Blake (Kari) of Medford, WI, Cindy (Joel) Braunschweig of Pewaukee, WI; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter: Heather O'Shaunnesey; and two daughters-in-law: Diane Dahlby and Peggy Dahlby.
