Hinkelmann, Arden Erwin (5 September 1924 - 4 July 2016)
Arden Hinkelmann, 91, of Neillsville died peacefully, Monday, July 4, 2016, at
the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center, with his family at his side.
Arden Erwin Hinkelmann was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Loyal, the son of Herman and
Elsie (Schmidt) Hinkelmann. He graduated from Loyal High School and then farmed
before going to work for the Rychnovsky brothers as a mechanic in Neillsville.
He was united in marriage May 24, 1947, to Alice E. Garbisch at the Zion
American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granton.
For 38 years they owned and operated Hinkelmann’s Mobil Service Station in
Neillsville. Along with the service station, Arden also operated a fuel oil
delivery service for many years, and he owned a Christmas tree farm between
Neillsville and Augusta. After they sold the service station in the late 80s, he
began carrying out groceries and tending to the garden center for his daughter
and son-in-law at Marty’s Foods. In retirement, they would spend their winters
in Alamo, TX. They enjoyed 10 warm winters there. Alice died July 10, 2004.
Arden was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. He served on the
city council and county board for many years and was a longtime member of the
Neillsville Lion’s Club. During his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and
watching Packers, Brewers and Bucks games on television.
He is survived by two children: Dean (Marcia) Hinkelmann of Neillsville and
Annette (Terry) Marty of Neillsville; four grandchildren: Heather Hinkelmann,
April Marty, Amy (Michael) Koprek and Aaron Hinkelmann; six great-grandchildren:
Katherine, Delaney, Morgan, Mady, Dominic and Olivia; two sisters: Anita and
Leona; and a brother, Jerry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; a granddaughter, Elizabeth; five
brothers: Herbert, Ewald, Edmund, Walter and Alfred; and a sister, Greta.
A memorial service for Arden will be held at 11 a.m. Satruday, July 9, 2016, at
the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. Pastor Chad Anderson will officiate.
Music will be provided by Jodi Rueth, organist and the Calvary Choir. Interment
will be in the Zion American Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery at a later
date. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
