Amacher, J. Mark (4 AUG 1938 - 15 MAY 2016)
J. Mark Amacher, 77, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday June 15, 2016 at
University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City.
Funeral services will be 10:30am Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00-6:00pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock
Island. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Honor Flight of the Quad Cities, St.
Matthew Lutheran Church or the family for them to distribute to other military
organizations.
Mark was born on August 4, 1938 in Marshfield, WI, the son of Edward and Cenayda
(Suter) Amacher.
He attended Wisconsin State College in Stevens Point and Whitewater, WI, now
known as University of Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Maryland
with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. After college, he joined
the United States Marine Corps.
Mark married Susan M. Stahl on April 4, 1964 in Sandwich, IL.
Mr. Amacher had been employed for over 45 years in the financial industry. He
had locally notably worked for Black Hawk Federal Savings and Loan, American
Bank, The Rock Island Bank, all of Rock Island. Prior to his retirement he had
been employed as a banker with IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union.
Mark was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan, Marine Corps League,
Past President of the Rock Island Kiwanis Club and Tau Kappa Epsilon his junior
year of college. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packer and Chicago White Sox fan,
enjoyed collecting baseball cards, volunteered for 10 years with Toys for Tots
and walking Civil War and World War battle fields.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Susan; son, Bryce (Anne Marie) Amacher,
Rock Island; grandchildren, Alexandra and Andrew Amacher; siblings, Bernice
Amacher, Edina, MN, Janice Smith, Medford, WI and Phyllis Smith, Maumee, OH.
He was preceded by his parents; brothers, Armond and Farrell Amacher and sister,
Marilyn Whelihan and Jean Bremer.
