Schraufnagel, Cletus A. (11 NOV 1918 - 2 JUL 2016)
Cletus A. Schraufnagel, age 97, of rural Colby, passed away on July 2, 2016 at
Golden Living Center - Continental Manor in Abbotsford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on July 8, 2016 at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Colby. Father Peter Manickam will officiate.
Interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Colby with Military Honors
provided by the Colby VFW Post #2227. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00
AM until 12:30 PM at the church on Friday.
Cletus was born November 11, 1918 in the town of Hull the son of Frank and Lena
(Schilling) Schraufnagel. He attended Riverside Country School and Colby High
School. Cletus served in the U. S. Navy as a gunner on a seaplane in WWII from
1943-45. After his service, he became a member of the National Guard.
Cletus was united in marriage to Anna Marie Hanson in April 3, 1944. She
preceded him in death on September 20, 1982. He also was united in marriage to
Maryjo Hammer in August 1985. She preceded him in death on March 19, 2009.
Cletus was a proud dairy farmer and purchased his father's farm. He later
purchased his grandfather's farm that was homesteaded and became a century farm
in 1978. After retiring from the farm in 1977, Cletus spent his winters in
Arizona and Texas from 1985-2009.
Cletus was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby. He also was
a lifetime member of the Colby VFW Post #2227. Cletus enjoyed playing cards,
shuffleboard, fishing, loved watching the Packers and Notre Dame and was an avid
reader. Most importantly, he loved and cherished his time with his family.
Cletus is survived by his three daughters: Carol (Steve) Luther, Mary (Rod)
Umlauft, Joan (Gene) Peissig; two sons: Patrick (Sharon) and Terry (Faye); a
daughter-in-law, Susan Schraufnagel; 28 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Anna Marie and Maryjo; his
son, Dennis; brothers: Emil, Alphonse, Richard and Arthur; sisters, Martha, Mary
Treankler and twin sisters at birth.
Memorials will be designated at a later date.
