Roger Schwarze, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schwarze, Greenwood (Clark Co.,
Wis.), and Jim Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Rice, Willard, will receive the
Wisconsin State Farmer Degree at the annual convention of the Wisconsin
Association of Future Farmers, to be held at the American Baptist Assembly at
Green Lake, June 8-10. This degree is the highest accomplishment that can be
awarded annually to about 2 percent of the State membership, which is about
10,000. The degree is based on scholarship, leadership and supervised farming
program.
Roger Schwarze has been a member of the FFA for four years, and this past year
served as president and previously served as Sentinel. He has represented the
local FFA Chapter at local and state meetings. Recently he was runner-up in
Tri-State Breeders Co-op Youth Recognition Program, and at the recent Awards Day
Program, he was presented he was presented with the DeKalb Agricultural Award.
His farming program consists of dairy animals, which he has shown at fairs and
also dairy herd testing and record keeping.
He is a member of the National Honor Society, Wisconsin Junior Dairyman's
Association and Student Council, having served this past year as Student Council
President. He has been active in 4-J, having served as President, Vice-President
and Reporter, and has also been active in his church choir and its Youth
Fellowship.
This fall he plans to enter Wausau Technical Institute to continue his education
in Farm Management.
James Rice has served this past year as Reporter of the FFA, of which he has
been a member the past four years. He has represented the chapter in the State
Farm Crops and Farm Management Contests.
His farming program consists of four cows, two bulls and four heifers, besides
maintaining herd records on the home herd.
He has been active in sports all four years, having participated in football,
baseball, track and wrestling.
As a member of the 4-H he has served as President for four eyars and has
participated in 4-H Public Speaking and Dairy Cattle Judging Contests. At the
Clark County Fair last year, he exhibited the Grand Champion Female.
He has been a member of Wisconsin Junior Dairyman's Association and has
participated in the State Fair Show the past three years, and will again exhibit
at the show this year, and will also participate in the State Extemporaneous
Speaking Contest, having already won the Sectional Contest.
This fall he plans to attend River Falls State College at River Falls to major
in agricultural Education.
Also attending the State Convention will be Alan Bushman, President-Elect, and
Victor Wagner, local advisor.
