Miss Judith Behrens, instructor in Russian and German at Mercer University,
Macon, Ga., is enroute to Russia for participation in the 1964 United States –
U.S.S.R. Summer exchange of Language Teachers.
Miss Behrens is one of 25 teachers from throughout the united States selected
for participation in this unique program, which will give her an opportunity for
almost 12 weeks of study in Russia.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Behrens of 1042 Warner, Lemont, Ill.,
and formerly of the Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) area.
The purpose of the exchange is to provide an opportunity for further perfection
in Russian, and in teaching techniques for those who have already achieved a
command of Russian.
The program provides for a like number of Soviet teachers of English to spend a
special English language program in the United States.
Miss Behrens joined the faculty of Mercer University last September. She holds a
Master's degree in Slavic languages and literature from the University of
California, as well as a bachelor's and Master's degree in languages from the
University of Wisconsin.
She holds a membership in several professional and learned societies, incluing
Phi Beta Kappa, Dobro Slovo, Sigma Delta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi.
