Grantham, Willie A. (31 OCT 1946 - 15 MAY 2016)

Willie A. Grantham, 69 of Gilman, died Sunday, May 15, 2016 at his home.

He was born on October 31, 1946 in Jesup, Georgia the son of the late Robert James and Willie Mae (Lane) Grantham.

He grew up there and after high school served his country in the Air Force. Bill had a construction business and was a journeyman for many years helping with the Gilman School edition.

Later, he received his RN degree and was a nurse before retirement.

Bill married Diane Kenner on June 19, 1976. They lived in California until moving to Georgia and resided there for 30 years and then to Gilman in 1998.

Bill coached Gilman area youth baseball for many years. He loved music and playing guitar and gave guitar lessons to many. Bill also was an avid gardener, enjoyed the outdoors and playing pool: being a charter member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

He is survived by his wife Diane, of Gilman, his children, Deborah Lynn Knight of Eatonton, GA, William Alvin Grantham of Eugene, OR and Bryan Grantham of Gilman, two grandsons, Brad Floyd of California and Dylan Floyd of Georgia and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Judy Blackmon.

Funeral services will be at 1PM on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Gilman Funeral Home with visitation from 11AM until time of service.

Burial will follow in the Meadowbrook Cemetery-Gilman with military rites.
