Strzok, Michael (? - 27 June1974)

A 75 year old rural Thorp man died last Thursday, June 27, when he was killed in a pasture by an 1800 pound Holstein bull he owned.

Dead was Michael Strzok, who according to Clark County Sheriff David Bertz, was “going to check on a hay field and was walking through a pasture” when the bull allegedly attacked him.

The body was found by relatives shortly after 3:00 p.m. and they reported that no animals were in the body’s vicinity.

Death, according to Bertz, was attributed to a crushed chest. Strzok also received severe injuries to his arms, believed to be caused by the animal’s pawing or hoofing at the downed victim.

Sheriff Bertz related that the bull, when brought to the barn, had blood stains on its front legs.

The Strozk farm is located three and one-half miles northeast of Thorp.

Strzok, Michael C. (19 Feb 1897 – 27 Jun 1974)

Michael C. Strzok, 77, route 1, Thorp, was gored to death by a bull on his farm in Withee Township Thursday afternoon, June 27, 1974.

A son, Chester Strzok, who rents and operates the farm, found his father’s body about 3 p.m.

The elder Strzok was crossing a pasture, carrying water to his son and other workmen harvesting hay, when he was attacked by the animal.

The incident occurred about 500 feet from a farm building. The son told Clark County authorities that the bull had been staked in the barn yard, but recently had been turned loose with the farm herd. The 4-year-old bull weighed 1,800 pounds, young Strzok said.

The victim of the accident suffered massive chest injuries, and multiple scalp and body bruises.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Chapel in Thorp, with Rev. John W. Puerner, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mr. Strzok was born in Thorp February 19, 1877, and lived on a farm on route 1, Thorp, town of Withee, his entire life. He was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors include his wife, the former Anna Wnek, and two sons and three daughters.
