Schaefer, Max (14 DEC 1875 – JUL 1964)
Funeral services were held Saturday in Peace United Church of Christ at
Dorchester for Max R. Schaefer, 88, Stetsonville, who died last Wednesday night
at Memorial hospital after being ill two weeks. The Rev. Carl Serr of Colby
officiated at the rites. Burial was made in Dorchester Memorial cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Schaefer of Owen, Herbert Waldhart and Michael Danen,
Stetsonville, Fred Gumz and Paul Schaefer, Medford, and Norman Danen,
Dorchester.
The body lay in state at the Maurina funeral home in Dorchester.
Mr. Schaefer was born December 14, 1875, in Saxony, Germany. He came to the
states with his parents in 1882 and lived in Michigan for two years before
moving to a farm in the town of Holton, Marathon county.
He married Bertha Lueddecke March 26, 1902, at Dorchester and they farmed in the
town of Holton until 1947 when they moved to Medford. Two years later they moved
to Stetsonville.
Survivors besides the widow are four sons, Walter and Louis, Medford, Reinhold
of Abbotsford and Arnold, Milwaukee; a daughter, Elsie, Mrs. Clarence Danen,
Stetsonville; a brother, Charles, Appleton; and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Cooper,
Superior; Lena, Mrs. Charles Lindboe, Stetsonville, and Martha, Mrs. Wm.
Steevens, Princeton. There are 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Two daughters, Ella, Mrs. Mike Gumz, and Clara, Mrs. Charles Waldhart, preceded
him in death. Four brothers, Paul, Arthur, Henry and Albert also preceded him in
death.

Martha (Schaefer) Steevens was born July 30, 1887. Her parents were from Saxony,
Germany and had emigrated to the United States in 1882. She was married to
William Steevens who was born January 29, 1890 and they resided in Princeton,
Green Lake, Wisconsin where he died in December of 1968. She died in March 1975
in Colby, Clark Co., Wisconsin. Martha's brother, Max Schaefer, of Dorchester,
Wisconsin died 1964.
