Hall, Helen (18 AUG 1921 – 12 APR 1969)
Mrs. Helene Hall, 47, Riplinger (Clark Co., Wis.), was killed late Saturday
afternoon, April 12, 1969, when she was struck by a Soo line freight train at
the crossing near the Airport Bar, which is located between Colby and
Abbotsford. She had left the bar on foot before the accident.
Crew members on the train reported seeing the woman on the tracks. She got off,
went on them again and was nearly clear of the tracks a second time when she was
struck by the handrail on the side of the engine and tossed into a ditch.
She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield and died at 8:20 p.m.
The former Helene George was born August 18, 1921 at Black River Falls. She was
married to Harold Hall May 15, 1943. The couple moved to Wisconsin Rapids in
1945 and had lived there until 1954, when they moved to Arpin. After operating a
tavern at Arpin for about 10 years, they moved to Riplinger, where they also
operated a tavern.
Survivors, besides her husband, include six daughters, Mrs. James (Carole)
Brandl of Arpin; Mrs. Royce (Kathleen) Pulls of Mentone, California; Mrs. Gerald
(Linda) Moen of Marshfield; Mrs. Stanley (Candacee) Rusin of Stevens Point;
Valerie and Eileen, both at home; three sons, Harold Jr. of Montgomery, Ill.,
and Scott and Leland, both at home; ten grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs.
Dorman Blazer of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Kenneth Kuhn of Oshkosh, and Mrs. Matt
Brandl of Auburndale, and four brothers, John George of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Emil
George of Milwaukee; Milas George of Phoenix, Arizona, and Robert George of
Wisconsin Rapids.
