Hart, George (Resignation from American Express Co. – 1 Mar 1919)
On March 1st, George Hart became an ex-agent of the American Express Co. at
Neillsville, having put in his resignation to the company a month before. His
resignation Marks one of the longest periods of continuous service of any person
in this city, as he has been the express agent at Neillsville for 28 years,
during which time he and his good wife cared for the business faithfully and
efficiently. So faithfully that it is noteworthy that in 28 years, Mr. and Mrs.
Hart were never able to go away on a visit at the same time. Either one or the
other remained at home to look after the express work. George figures that he
and his wife have earned a vacation and they are planning on enjoying their
remaining years while they have health and activity to appreciate the rest. Mr.
Hart has been a familiar figure at the depot for all these years and has
travelled back and forth thousands of miles to meet the trains. He, therefore,
has a wide acquaintance among the traveling men as well as among the home people
and he will be missed a great deal at his usual place.
M.H. Zilisch of Juneau arrived Saturday to take the position of agent made
vacant by Mr. Hart’s resignation. Mr. Zilisch is a young man and has been at
Ripon engaged in the same work for some time. He will move his family here soon.
