Shanks, John (Committed Suicide – 9 Mar 1919)
John Shanks of Greenwood, who had been the object of a spirited legal contest,
committed suicide on Sunday by hanging himself. His body was found in the barn.
Mr. Shanks was almost 81 years of age and of late years his mind seemingly had
become deranged. He was taken to Mendota, but later returned here and found
entirely sane. His suicide seems to substantiate the claim that he was mentally
deranged at times.
