Shortess, Maude (12 MAR 1885 – 23 FEB 1971)
Funeral services were held February 26 for Mrs. Maude Shortess, 85, of route 2,
Spencer, who died Tuesday morning, February 23, 1971, at the Neillsville
Memorial Home.
The Friday afternoon service was held at the Jasperson Funeral Home, and burial
was made in the West Spencer Cemetery. Pastor Bernie A. Scott of the Spencer
United Methodist Church officiated. Mrs. Norman Kasper sang "Rock of Ages" and
"The Old Rugged Cross, " accompanied by Mrs. Darrell Roder. Pallbearers were
Larry Shortess, Dick Shortess, Wayne Bender, Edward Timmler, Fred Decker, and
Fred Klaar.
The former Maude Brandon was born March 12, 1885, in Chicago, and was married
there to Richard Shortess, who preceded her in death in 1917. She made her home
in Chicago until about 21 years ago, when she came to the Spencer area. About
four years ago she became a resident of Memorial Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Trip, Cardiff, California; a son,
Jack, route 2, Spencer; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a
sister, Mrs. William West, Chicago. In addition to her husband, she was preceded
in death by a daughter; a brother, and a sister.
