Loucks, Leona (23 SEP 1900 – 25 FEB 1971)
Services for Mrs. Leona A. Loucks, 70, Rockford, Illinois, who died Thursday,
February 25, 1971, were Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Burpee-Wood Funeral Home.
Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Leona Loucks, nee Chamberlain, was the daughter of Lot and Addie Chamberlain,
former residents of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.). She was a cousin of Harold an
Alfred Hills Sr., and a distant relatives of J.R. Thomas of Loyal.
Her death was caused by a heart attack after a struggle with two boys, 15 and 17

work. They succeeded in getting her money and the empty purse was later found in
the bushes from where they had jumped. They were later apprehended and turned
over to the police.
The Chamberlains were one-time owners of the building now occupied by the Skogmo
Store. For many years one-half of the building housed a jewelry store, while the
other half was operated as a bakery shop by the Chamberlains.
She was born September 23, 1900, in Loyal, and lived 40 years in Rockford. She
was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one son, Donald, Belvidere, Illinois, one sister, May Gustafson,
Monroe, and One brother, Harlow Chamberlain, of Louisville, Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
