Scott R. Needham, Loyal High School senior and son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Needham, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), has been notified that he has been selected to
receive a scholarship from the Laird Youth Leadership Foundation.
According to a personal letter to Scott from Melvin R. Laird, Secretary of
Defense, the scholarship will be paid in check on September 1, to be used in any
way Scott thinks appropriate to further his education.
The scholarships are offered to students in 15 counties in the district served
by Mr. Laird while he was a member of the House of Representatives. The Laird
Foundation was established in memory of Mr. Laird's late father, a former pastor
and member of the Wisconsin State Legislature.
Scholastic and leadership excellence are recognized by the scholarship committee
in making awards, says John M. Potter, Wisconsin Rapids, who is the president of
the Laird Youth Leadership Foundation.
Other members of the committee are Pat Felker, vice president, Marshfield,
Robert A. Fisher, secretary, Stevens Point; Robert F. Froehlke, treasurer,
Stevens Point; Mr. Laird; Dr. Russell Lewis, Marshfield; Marshall Taylor and
S.F. Staples, Wausau; and Mrs. David Smith, Merrill.
